The carob tree was already there. On the curved, corner terrain in the Puembo Valley, in the foothills of the Andes above Quito, a single tree stood at the center of the plot. TEC didn’t move it or design around it as an obstacle. They made it the point from which everything else was measured.

Casa Riba is organized as a bar while the tree stands in the courtyard that the bar creates, framed by the house on multiple sides. From the kitchen island, from the living room, from the terrace, the tree is always in view....see more here
