The brief was tightly constrained. A 1950s house on the hills above Nice. Nicola Spinetto Architectes were given the southwest quarter of the building to work with. Forty square metres of extension. Ninety square metres of renovation.
The new volume rises exactly where the existing flat roof permits, adding height without violating setbacks. But rather than making the addition invisible, the architects chose to make it distinct. The extension’s facades are clad in reddish-orange metal sheets. A warm, saturated surface that contrasts with the existing plaster while harmonizing with the terracotta tones of the surrounding rooftops......… see more here
